Declining to reveal the names of candidates being considered by the NDA for the forthcoming Presidential polls, BJP national president Amit Shah said on Saturday said that his party was open to consider the names from all quarters and would reveal its choice when his party leaders would meet Opposition party leaders for the second round of talks.
Talking to media persons here, Shah said that there was no merit in the Opposition’s argument that while on one hand the Government was talking about a consensus on the choice of Presidential poll nominee, while on the other it was not disclosing its choice of candidates.
“It is all about the kind of glasses that the Opposition is looking at the situation from. If we had gone to them (the Opposition) with our name, the Opposition would have said that the Government has come to us after deciding its nominee,” the BJP chief said.
Queried if the BJP would broach the name of its candidate when its leaders meet the Opposition next time to build consensus on the choice of Presidential poll nominee, Shah said “We will definitely go to the Opposition parties with our name(s) and hold discussions with them. Had they given us some names earlier, we would have considered them by now.”
