Senior BJP leader and leader of the Opposition in the Council KS Eshwarappa stirred a major controversy on Saturday by asking a woman reporter what can the opposition members do if “someone drags and rapes” her. The woman reporter of a local TV channel questioned Eshwarappa, on the silence of the Opposition parties in the State in the wake of rising number of crimes and lack of police personnel in the state, to which he replied, “See, you are here, you are a woman, if someone drags you away and rapes you, what can we in the opposition parties, who are in other parts of the state, doIJ”
He was interacting with the media after attending the funeral of the police sub-inspector who was stabbed to death by burglars on Friday October 16 at Ramanagara .
“You tell me what we need to do, we will do it;...we have criticised it in the legislature, when a six-year-old girl was raped I used all sorts of language that I had to, you people objected to my language...,” he added.
The statement is a major embarrassment to the party which is trying hard to come back to power in the State basking on Modi wave.
