Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs M  Venkaiah Naidu will call on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday to discuss about the situation arising out of the recent devastating floods  in Chennai and other four districts in Tamil Nadu. This was announced by Naidu who reached Chennai on Saturday for his meeting with the Chief Minister. The Centre on Friday had declared the floods which ravaged Chennai and other places in the State as a  “calamity of severe nature”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to the flood-affected regions of Chennai had declared that the Centre would offer Tamil Nadu all help it needs. Naidu’s visit to Chennai and the meeting with the Chief Minister is seen as a follow up to the Prime Minister’s announcement. The Centre has already released Rs 1,944 crore to Tamil Nadu to meet the expenses of the flood relief operations.

Speaking to reporters at the Chennai airport, Naidu said  Parliament logjam has resulted in the Congress losing its credibility. Referring to the disruptions of both the Houses by the Congress over National Herald issue, the Union Minister said  the National Herald case has to be sorted out in court of law not in streets or in Parliament.
