UPA Govt playing vote bank politics: Modi

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi once again launched a blistering attack on the Congress-led UPA Government for playing vote bank politics through Food Security Bill. “There should be development of the villages that enables people to stand on their feet instead of focusing on winning elections through a culture of charity,” Modi said on Saturday.

Speaking at the National Conference of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development, BJP’s campaign committee chief took a dig at the UPA Government, saying that there is a need to boost rural economy with concrete development, but the Central Government is busy creating a vote bank.

Remembering Mahatma Gandi’s vision of Gram Swarajya, Modi said that the Father of Nation’s vision for development of villages is still relevant. “Efforts need to be put in to make villages self-sufficient in all spheres. Gram Sabha must be as important for the village as the lok Sabha is for the nation. Optimum use of technology required for enhancing the rural development,” said the Chief Minister advocating the importance of de-centralization. Sitting in the State capital, authorities can’t take decisions about the needs of the remote villages, he added.

Speaking to over 5,000 delegates representing 26 States and four Union Territories in Gandhinagar, BJP’s probable prime ministerial candidate termed the Conference as ‘Mini-Rural India’ and said that the idea of organising the conference was to mark 50 years of Panchayati Raj. Modi said, “Mahatma Gandhi envisaged health and education in villages. He dreamt of freedom from all social evils and jobs for all.”
