Inspired by Darr, a 30-year-old sales executive, Sushil Kumar started stalking a woman in South Delhi’s Vasant Vihar area for the last eight months and also proposed marriage to her on a number of occasions. Anxious with the repeated harassment calls, the victim attempted to wriggle out of the situation and changed her phone number but the stalker outsmarted her.
Kumar’s luck ran out when he was apprehended late on Thursday night as he was escaping after stealing the victim’s undergarments and clothes from her washroom. The 29-year-old victim, who works with a BPO in Gurgaon, is a native of Tamil Nadu and resides with her husband in Munirka area. “The arrest was made on late Thursday night and on the basis of the victim’s statement, a case under Sections of 354-D (stalking), 380/411 (theft), 506 (threatening) and 452 (trespass) of Indian Penal Code was registered at Vasant Vihar police station of South Delhi,” a senior police officer said.
The victim, in her statement, told police that the first time she saw the accused was a year ago at a bus stand in Munirka. “The accused was initially stalking her but she never paid heed to him. Some months later, the accused intercepted her and proposed marriage. It was only when she rebuffed his advances, her ordeal began,” the officer added.
The victim told police the accused somehow managed to get her cell phone number and started calling her. She initially tried to ignore his calls but later fielded his phone calls. Tired, she even changed her cell phone number but in vain.
