Two executers of extortion racket run by notorious criminals Vikas lagarpuria and Dhirpal Kala from inside Bhondsi Jail in Haryana were arrested by the police on Saturday. The accused have been identified as Vineet Kumar, alias Jhony (24) and Pawan Gulia (19) from South-West Delhi’s Najafgarh area. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) RA Sanjeev, while Dhirpal was orchestrating the racket from inside Bhondsi Jail, where he is lodged for a murder, Vikas lagarpuria, who recently got out on bail, was managing the nexus from outside. They were using Jhony to terrorise the victims and extorted money in the name of providing protection.
“On April 13, an extortion call was received by a businessman, with a demand of Rs25 lakh protection money. Kumar was threatened the following day as well after which he lodged a complaint and investigations were taken up,” said Sanjeev. The investigations found that the call was received from Bhondsi Jail. “On Friday, a tip-off was received that Pawan Gulia and Jhony will come from Gurgaon in Swift Dezire car to go towards Najafgarh after which a trap was laid and both were caught,” said the DCP.
During interrogation they said that the mastermind behind the conspiracy was Dhirpal who used to give them instructions from Bhondsi Jail and his associate Vikas lagarpuria who was out on bail. They also revealed that conspiracy was hatched in a meeting held at lagarpuria’s house and the weapons were provided by one Pradeep, alias Fauji. lagarpuria has previously been involved in more than 10 cases of murder, attempt to murder, carjacking and extortion and is wanted in several other cases of extortion. Dhirpal, on the other hand, is previously involved in 7-8 criminal cases.
