Three passengers were stuck in a lift at Barakhamba Metro station on Saturday. The passengers could be rescued only after an hour.

“The lift got stuck around 5 pm. Immediate rescue operation was started to rescue them out from the lift which got stuck between Ground and Concourse level,” said Anuj Dayal, Executive Director, Corporate Communications, Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC). “The problem occurred due to the rope coming out of the groove of the pulley resulting in jamming of the motor of the lift, he added.

“The General Manager (electrical), in charge of maintenance rushed to the site and got the doors of the lift opened to provide ventilation and water was given to the three middle-aged passengers. The rope was then cut to restore functionality of the lift and all passengers were taken out safely by DMRC staff. Fire service and other agencies were also present on the spot to assist, in case required,” said Dayal.
