Three unidentified persons murdered a journalist and kidnapped her four-year-old son on Saturday afternoon from her Mayur Vihar residence. They have demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh from the deceased's husband.

The deceased has been identified as Mahi (29). The victim's maid, Beena, witnessed the entire incident.

Investigators said that her husband Inam, who runs a garments shop, is being suspected as has been changing statements during interrogation.

A senior police official said that they are concerned about the safety of the child and police teams are trying to recover him.

According to police, the incident took place around 12 pm. Two men came to Mahi's house, while a third one waited outside. Beena opened the door and the two overpowered her at gunpoint. They threatened to kill her if she raised alarm.

Mahi was in her bedroom, sensing something wrong she tried to raise alarm but the accused grabbed her and dragged her into the kitchen. She was then asked to direct where valuables and cash were kept.

As she tried resisting the miscreants, they strangled her to death with an electric wire.

They then abducted her son and fled. In her statement, Beena said that one accused was addressing Mahi by her name and seemed familiar.

The neighbours learnt of the incident when Inam, who was at his shop in Mayur Vihar Phase III market, came home and enquired about his wife and son. The maid then narrated the incident to him.

Inam and Mahi were residents of Supaul district in Bihar and had married a few years back. They shifted to Delhi after their marriage. They lived in a two bedroom flat at Gharoli Dairy Colony which they had purchased two years ago.

A neighbour said that Mahi's parents often visited them and were very happy with their inter-religion marriage, while Inams' family was against it." "Three months ago, Inam had purchased a shop after Mahi's father gave him Rs 65 lakh," the neighbour added.
