Jaaved Jaaferi | The actor, whose latest film Sooryavanshipremiered on Zee Cinema, speaks with SUPRIYA RAMESH about his character in the movie, how he prepared for it, his experience working with Akshay Kumar among other things

Tell us about your character in Sooryavanshi.

In the film, I am a police officer, who considers the police as his duty, who has given his life for the police. He has no family. His work is everything to him. He only thinks of himself as a police officer. He is a very disciplined and honest person.

How was your experience working with Akshay Kumar?

I have done many films with Akshay. He is a much disciplined actor. The passion to work with full vigour is evident in him. Akshay has a sense of humour, which is amazing. Being grounded, it matches very quickly. That's what makes him so special.

How did you prepare for the role?

I have never ventured far from my action-days. It’s my favourite genre and it’s always fun to work on such exciting projects. Though, this time, it was one unique experience.

According to you, what is the most important factor for any film to be successful?

I think for a film to be successful, the audience needs to connect with your story and personality. Whether you are doing comedy, action romance or horror, you need to engage the audience. In addition, factors such as screenplay, story or narrative, dialogue, cast acting have a big impact on the success of the film. The point is, storytelling is very important to your audience.

What is your mantra of success for the younger generation?

No task is big or small, so give 100 per cent of what you are doing, no power in the world can stop you from succeeding. An example is the story of the aftermath of a war that builds a warrior's sword. If the sword alone is not good, think of how the war will be fought. Don't always polish your art, never put it on. Don't give up, keep practicing.

Sooryavanshi is now premiering on Zee Cinema, how do you feel?

Nothing can beat the experience of watching a film with a room full of your family and friends with non-stop banter and fun. TV is a medium that brings everyone together, and I am more than glad that Sooryavanshi, a project so close to my heart, will reach my fans through Zee Cinema, a channel with a strong legacy and wide audience reach.
