Karuna Pandey | The actress is known for her work in films like The Bypass, Sirf Main Aur Tum, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Bollywood Diaries, among others. She speaks with
SUPRIYA RAMESH about her upcoming show, how it is different, her message for the viewers and why education is important. Pushpa Impossible will air on Sony SAB from June 6, Monday to Saturday at 9:30 pm

What is the show about and how is it different?

Pushpa Impossible is truly different than the other shows because we being actors, haven't done a show like this where life is being portrayed to its truest possible sense. There are no gimmicks, there is nothing good or bad about life, it's filled with people like you and I. Every character has positives and negatives. If you see Pushpa, she is pretty unusual but we have showcased her flaws with equal attention as we did with the merits.

Despite the flaws, she is a splendid person who is young at heart and the way she carries all the goodness. Accepting our flaws and learning from it to move forward is what I think is called life and there is a thought that life is good and everything  will be better in the future.

Please tell us about your role.

Pushpa is not the usual mother. She likes to live in reality and not in a world of make-believe. We all have good things and bad things inside us and in the show, we have tried to show as it is. Pushpa is boisterous, full of life, energetic, straightforward, says whatever that comes to her heart.

So, sometimes she has to face the consequences as well. She has a different method and style to sort things out and to save her children. She has a spunk, loves Kishore Kumar songs, plays cricket and tries to live it up despite all the short comings. She takes time out for her children and to find herself time and time again. This is her beauty.

What made you say “yes” to the role or the show?

Why wouldn't I say "yes" to it? Why wouldn't an actor say yes to it? It's a lead role. The story is from my point of view. Of course when a daily soap is made, there are a lot of tracks but if you are getting to play the centre stage of all the tracks, from whose perspective the world revolves, I don't think any actor would refuse this role.

Yes, a lot of time is consumed as you are busy, have to take care of your health, but in the end of the day if there is an actor that is true to acting and loves what he/she does irrespective of all the problems, it's their dream come true as this is the kind of role everyone waits for.

Your character seems very inspiring. Is there any message for the viewers?

I would like to tell this to all the women of India that if you are educated or uneducated, please don't link that fact to success. That's because the character of a person has no connection to their educational status. Yes, education helps you by teaching you exactly what to speak and behave, but education  cannot make you a good person.

It only depends on the journey of a person’s life and what they take away from all the experiences.  Look at a new day as a new beginning, don't fear the difficulties. Positive thinking is our motive and it is a positive show.

How did acting happen to you?

During my childhood, I have always felt that singing, dancing making faces in the mirror while acting was my forte. My grandfather used to teach Sanskrit and was into Hindu prayers and used to say that Kanchan will do this when she grows up. I am lovingly called Kanchan at home. I have heard this all my childhood days. My parents are very supportive and would have a separate room for honing my skills as a dancer, actor with mirrors.

In the show, you seem to regret one thing that is to not being able to complete your education. According to you, how important is education for all?

I think that education is imporftant because it starts with your parents and creates a bonding with them. As they teach you, the bond becomes stronger while learning.

In school, it is totally different environment and experience. It introduces you to the world. Your friends and teachers become part of your life and it is a great stepping ground to not just get the bookish knowledge but gain a lot more than that. It is something you get to experience for a certain period of time and is a lifetime achievement. I believe that everyone should live that phase irrespective of the marks they get in school. One should install their foundation of knowledge and learn more things as they come along. Otherwise life teaches you everything. That's the biggest teacher.
