Taking advantage of God

Taking advantage of God

Search your hearts and see where you need help from God, writes AJIT KUMAR BISHNOI

Are we not sometimes tempted to take advantage of someone, but then we become afraid of the backlash. However, there is a person who is not upset if we take advantage of him; rather he loves it. He is none other than God himself. I am not being funny; I have been taking advantage of my lord for quite some time and there have been no repercussions.

How did I get the idea of doing itIJ The lord himself has given many openings. I will cite from the verses spoken by lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita. He states in verse #15.15, “I am present in the hearts of all. From me only memory, knowledge and removal of delusion take place.”

So, if we need to have sharp memory, a lot of spiritual knowledge and freedom from delusion, we should go to God only because from him only these are available. And it is obvious also that these are meant to be obtained from him. The lord confirms this fact in verse #10.11, “By being specially kind to them, I situated within, destroy the darkness born of ignorance by the shining lamp of knowledge.”

The lord gives many hints about what pleases him. I found verse #18.68 to suit me perfectly in which the lord states, “He, who shall preach this supreme secret knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita, by doing this highest devotion towards me, will undoubtedly attain me only.” That is why I love to write spiritual texts which are essentially based on the Bhagavad Gita.

The lord becomes really benevolent when he states in verse #9.22, “These people who worship me with undivided attention, meditating on me, for these regular practitioners of yoga, I help in getting what one does not have and security of what one has.” I will be honest to admit that I take a very liberal view of the word regular in order to qualify for what God is offering.

I go even further and accept his offer of just being a medium (11.33). This works beautifully for me when I begin to write. Without being unnecessarily proud, I can honestly state that sometimes I get surprised after reading what I wrote. lastly, the lord promises to help when his devotees are in trouble. (18.58) Yes, he does not prevent troubles from coming because they are the results of our past bad karmas, but he surely gives a helping hand in extricating us from whatever difficulties we have gotten into.

For taking advantage of God, he must be available. He is, as he has confirmed in several verses of the Bhagavad Gita; some I have quoted herein. In any case, being omnipresent, he has to be in our hearts also. Therefore, there is no problem of connectivity.

Before I reveal in how many different ways I take advantage of God, I must confess that I had to make four promises to qualify for this privilege. One, I had to agree to follow dharma. Two, I had to assure him that I will do all my duties. Three, I will try to live in an appropriate way as God has instructed in verse #6.17. And four, my behaviour will be good in all circumstances. Believe me, I try to fulfil these promises as much as is possible for me.

Now these are the ways I take advantage of God. I have already mentioned about writing spiritual texts. The next big favour I get from God is in mind control. Whenever my mind gives me trouble, which is often, I pray for his intervention. Believe me, he does, I get surprised by his promoters. Then, I seek guidance whenever I cannot decide something or I have doubts about any idea. Prior to sleeping, I pray for help for good sleep by seeking God’s company during sleep. lastly, I pray for help when someone near or dear is unwell, like most people do.

Now you have a fair idea about what to do. You can search your hearts and see where you need help from God; he is available. It is a shame that we don’t take advantage of him more.
