Surviving the Chaos: One butterfly flap at a time!

Are we, as a human race, doomed?

No, I do not think so!

What we are witnessing happening around the world, around us in our country, in our cities, within our families, and even within our own minds, might be chaotic, frightening, sad, and depressing, but humanity has endured and survived worse circumstances.

Circumstances brought about by ignorance, lack of modern scientific and technological solutions (and later due to some of the very same solutions which earlier appeared magical!), and by the greed and deceit of powerful people and powerful nations. Humanity survived all of that, and without doubt, we will live through the present chaos also! The war and destruction going on and on is not self-sustaining — it cannot be! It is being fed by a war-mongering mentality which seeks power and profits, and domination at any cost, by any means fair or foul — mostly foul. However, I feel this phase of so much kinetic violence will get reduced in a decade or two to manageable levels. The struggle for domination, however, will metamorphose into unique ways of control and subjugation — some of which must already be developed and on trial here and there. We have to be prepared for them and then for some more.

But how? Addressing the survival concerns of the last denomination of a nation — the individual human being — is very important. A great amount of work is yet to be done to eliminate abject poverty, debilitating disease, and to counter the ill effects of modernity. The fury of monsoons which we see in the Himalayan rivers and valleys is just a symptom of unplanned and unscientific growth. Development has to be designed to be environment-friendly. Moreover, eventual return to our philosophical moorings to distil age-old wisdom into relevant strategy for the future is too crucial to be neglected. How the population can be organised, motivated, and mobilised, and their inherent potential harnessed for national good needs to be kept in mind by all echelons of leaders within their respective domains. Is it too much to ask for?Under the prevailing circumstances, yes, it definitely appears to be too much to ask for! However, we have no choice but to continue to educate, motivate, and elevate them; eventually the efforts will bear fruit. The Butterfly Flap illustrates a core principle of Chaos Theory: That unnatural flapping of wings by a butterfly anywhere in the universe can have a disproportional effect on the overall world environment. So the efforts have to go on to change the world — one butterfly flap at a time!
