Surge in robberies in Gr Noida cause for worry

Published on:

The incidents of street crime, particularly snatching and robbery, have been on the rise in Greater Noida at an alarming rate. Taking advantage of poor mobility of PCR vans and non-availability of police force, especially in rural areas, the bike-borne perpetrators flee from the scene of the crime outsmarting the police.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Brijesh Kumar Singh has admitted the spurt in incidents of robbery and snatching and said that the administration is chalking out a detailed strategy to curb such incidents in future.

Around half-a-dozen cases of similar crime are being registered everyday in various police stations across the city. Over 200 cases of such incidents have been registered in various police stations this year. The city and its surrounding areas are mainly affected with the incidents of unorganised crime these days. Bike-

borne criminals suddenly appear and commit loot at gun point.

The criminals are mainly targeting small traders and lone people either male or female. Areas near Galgotia University and Jagatpur farm, Bilaspur in Dankaur region, Badalpur, Surajpur and several sectors, considered as posh colonies of the city, are witnessing sudden increase in such incidents recently.

“As the cases of on road crime are increasing in the region, we have ordered police to increase patrolling in their respective areas. We are also defining sensitive places so presence of police could be increased there. We are also planning to make a special mobile squad which would patrol in the city round the clock,” said Singh.

“Because of inadequate police force and limited number of PCR vans, Greater Noida Police faces plenty of problems in day to day policing. Most of the PCR vans are in ill condition and we are waiting for 20 new PCR vans from Greater Noida Authority so the presence of police could be increased in the fields,” added Singh.
