Death toll in Friday storm increased to 14 on Saturday. Nine people had lost their lives and more than two dozen were injured in Friday’s killer duststorm, which had thrown normal life out of gear and left a trail of devastation in the national Capital.
According to police, the most number of casualties were reported from West Delhi where three people lost their lives. This was followed by South-West Delhi, Central Delhi, North Delhi and North-West Delhi where two people each were killed in different accidents. Most people died in freak accidents as uprooted trees fell on their cars, walls collapsed on them or some flying projectiles hit them during the storm. “A boy was killed as his neck was slit with a tin sheet. His mother is okay now and she has returned home,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ajay Kumar. At the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, a 44-year-old man was killed in the apron area.
“The cause of his death is not clear. He was found bleeding from his nose, one of his ribs was broken. He worked as a cleaner and hailed from Bihar. The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) MI Haider. One person was also killed in South-East Delhi.
