Spoof me, please!

Comedy is serious business and no one knows it better than Krushna Abhishek who has won Comedy Circus six times in a row and is looking good for more. Movies like Bol Bachchan and Entertainment have made sure that Krushna has a demand in the film industry as well. But this time, the versatile stand-up comedienne will be seen in a different avatar on Sony Max.

“Bharti Singh and I have shot many spoofs of Bollywood movies like Ram leela and Dirty Picture. I’m sure people would love to see these fillers instead of toilet cleaning products (laughs). Spoofs and memes have been super hits, hogging publicity and fame. With this thought, we are bringing 2-minute laughter fillers to be telecast between movie screenings on the channel,” he says.

It was not easy shooting these memes as actors were required to give their best within a very short time. “It is a challenge to act in short spoofs because the actor has only two minutes to prove his worth. We spent close to four hours a day to come up with two spoofs,” Krushna, also known as a master make-up man, tells you. He adds that out of those four hours, the maximum time was spent in getting in and out of outfits.

“It doesn’t end with movies. We will be doing a lot of spoofs on saas-bahu shows as well. There is a lot of scope in doing soap memes because most of our serials these days are bordering on nonsense. That is one reason I will never do a TV serial,” he declares.

TV, he says, has become unpredictable and monotonous. “TV shows mein character ki death actor key attitude ki wajah se hoti hai aur films mein celebrity tantrums ki wajah se producer ki deathhoti hai. Daily soap are unpredictable as you never know when you’ll be asked to die or play a double role. While you sign a film after reading the script, understanding the character and knowing about its end, in TV shows producers stretch the plot to an extent that people lose interest. That’s not my cup of tea,” he insists.
