SP leader Azam slams Hindu outfits

Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Saturday criticised the stand of various Hindu outfits over the Ayodhya dispute and said that when power became the law, law was reduced to nothing. He said that a barrage of statements by leaders of the Sangh Parivar over the issue made a mockery of the law.

Commenting on VHP-sponsored Dharma Sabha at Ayodhya on Sunday and a resolution passed at a congregation of saints in Delhi in October, Khan said: “When a sant sammelan was organised in Delhi, they proclaimed that they would not wait any more and were ready for a fight. On this, we said that we were nowhere in the fight. Even on December 6, 1992, we were not a part of the struggle and called for obeying the law. But then, no law could help, so what law will obstruct construction of temple now. This is what leads to dictatorship.”

Reacting to Shivpal Yadav’s recently floated party, Khan said: “There is only one Samajwadi Party and it has only one national president Akhilesh Yadav. Whatever other party is formed is entirely a different thing.”

Replying to a question about various Muslims supporting Ram temple construction at Ayodhya, the SP leader said: “The issue of temple construction is pending in the Supreme Court and we have faith in the court. But if someone wants to bring a solution before the court decision that is also fine.”

On being asked about the law and order situation under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Khan said: “The Government is good. If someone is destined to die, Yogi cannot do anything. He has already told them to get better treatment. Yogi worships God for as much as 23 hours 45 minutes in a day. He should not be blamed.”
