Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday met President Ram Nath Kovind and urged him to set up a Presidential Retreat in the Northeast, which according to him will symbolize the unity of the country.

Sonowal presented the President with an eri chador, cheleng and a gamocha—which are the traditional items to honour someone in Assam and requested him to visit the state during October November this year.

“A Presidential Retreat in North East besides the existing ones in North and South would symbolize the unity of the country besides signifying the unity of our diverse cultures and people of the country,” Sonowal said to the President.

Kovind appreciated Sonowal for conceiving the idea of a Presidential Retreat in the North Eastern region and assured to look into the matter in right earnest. He also assured to visit the region during October-November this year.
