Sonia, Rahul to visit Gujarat end of month for tribal yatra

With an eye on tribal votes, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi will visit Gujarat at the end of this month to address the party's 12-day Navsarjan Adivasi Adhikar Yatra' for mobilising the tribal support base of the Congress.

The 12-day yatra, likely to begin on October 20 or 21, will start from Ambaji in Banaskantha district of north Gujarat and conclude at Umbergaon, Valsad in southern part, covering State's tribal-dominated eastern belt.

The yatra is an attempt of the Opposition to woo tribals through direct meetings along the course of the 1200-km journey covering around 100 kilometres on each day.

The Congress is making a serious bid to end BJP's domination of Gujarat politics for nearly two decades. The party feels that with the Patels and dalits already on the warpath against the BJP, the tribal voters could play crucial role in its attempt to capture power in Prime minister Narendra Modi's bastion.

The congress leadership is also taking serious look at the leadership issue and power tussle in the State. Several senior leaders have reportedly drawn the attention of the party high command to the infighting among senior leaders of the State, most of whom have no support base.
