A soldier was killed while foiling an infiltration bid along the line of Control (loC) in Keran sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara District, defence sources said. “Militants attempted to infiltrate in wee hours of Saturday. They were intercepted by the troops that triggered a fierce gun-battle,” they said. While the infiltrators fled back to PoK, a soldier received a gunshot wound. He was evacuated from the area but succumbed to his injuries later. The identity of the slain solider could not be ascertained immediately. The police and army sources said that level of infiltration has gone up in the region this summer. Till June-end as many as 54 militants have been able to infiltrate till ending June.
