SOl sends BPl students to regular DU colleges for grooming session

The School of Open learning, Delhi University is set to send a batch of students who come from Below Poverty line families to regular DU colleges for special grooming classes. These students will be imparted grooming lessons from senior students and lectures.

“We want the senior students and lecturers of DU’s regular colleges to groom the students who take admissions in the SOl. This plan had been discussed with some colleges and principals last year who agreed to come on board in this initiative,” SOl, Director, CS Dubey told The Pioneer.

Dubey said they (SOl) were writing to the university’s study centers and more colleges for helping these students. He said this would give them an exposure to learn and explore more.

The SOl enrolls around 6,000 students from the BPl families. Most of these students are from the neighbouring States like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

The idea of this grooming is to build their overall personality. “Due to their background, these students hesitate to take their career too far. They have difficulty in finding jobs but if their hidden potential is exposed to them, they can go a long way too,” said one of the officials of the SOl.

Under this move, the teachers from DU colleges would be asked to mentor these students. After classes, they can go up to their mentor and discuss their issues and the mentors can also point out areas which need improvement.
