A group of Youth Congress workers on Saturday waved black flags at Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani at the airport in the Kerala capital, Thiruvananthapuram, when she reached there to attend a BJP programme. They were protesting against the remarks she had made the other day against Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.
Six Youth Congress workers were arrested in connection with the incident, the police said, adding that cases had been registered against them for waving black flags at the Minister and for trying to block her way. About ten Youth Congress activists had participated in the protest and the presence of some Yuva Morcha workers on the scene had raised apprehensions of tension.
Joining issue with Sonia Gandhi the other day over her “theatrics” remark against External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for her statement on Thursday in Parliament, Irani had asked the Congress president whether she had wanted to say that Parliament had become a theatre.
