Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday rode around on a bicycle as the Capital continued trying out its traffic rationing measures, allowing only even-numbered cars on the streets for 15-day on trial basis since January 1. “Good Morning Delhi! Ready for day 2 in fight againt corruption with #OddEvenFormula. Day1 was a great success (sic),” Sisodia, who owns an odd-numbered car, tweeted.
He first rode to the All India Radio office for a live show and then cycled to his office at the Delhi Secretariat. “I am taking this mode of transport so I can understand the problems people are facing while following this (odd-even) plan. If we have made a rule, we should follow it ourselves,” a television news channel quoted him as saying.
ClARIFICATION
The Delhi Government has denied buying 10 new cars to ensure smooth travelling of Ministers in the wake of even-odd scheme starting from January 1. In its clarification, the Delhi Government has stated that the process of purchase of cars mentioned has nothing to do with even/odd formula.
Besides, the Government has also categorically stated that it has put in public domain the travel plans and mode of transport of its Ministers between January 1-15. The Arvind Kejirwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government has further mentioned that none of these cars have been purchased for use of any Minister of the Delhi Cabinet. “It was a normal procurement of vehicles that was required by officials of various departments and in no manner is as an emergency purchase to allow Ministers to use these vehicles,” said Deputy Director, MC Maurya.
