Facing charges of abetting a 36-year-old woman for suicide, dismissed Station House Officer (SHO) of Vijay Vihar Police Station, was on Saturday released on bail, after two prior attempts, by Tis Hazari Court against the surety and personal bond of Rs50,000.

The Additional Public Prosecutor (AAP) of the Delhi Police opposed the bail to the former SHO but the court allowed him to be freed from the judicial custody.

The inspector identified as Dinesh Kumar furnished a personal surety and a bond of  Rs50,000 following which he was granted bail by the court. The city court passed the judgment saying the Delhi Police has no firm evidences against Kumar to keep him in the custody and also that his abetment in connection with the woman’s suicide is not substantiated by material evidence.

Kumar was arrested on April 29 after a 36-year-old woman identified as Rekha, a resident of Budh Vihar of northwest Delhi committed suicide in the complex of Tis Hazari Courts in the afternoon.

North district police had recovered a five-page suicide note levelling serious allegations against inspector Kumar. In her suicide note, Rekha had alleged that she was forced to take the extreme step as she was being harassed by the SHO Kumar.

Subsequently, Kumar was arrested and later was dismissed from his services after Joint Commissioner of Police (Northern range) Sanjay Singh initiated an order for the same.

Call Data Record (CDR) of the SHO’s official and personal numbers had revealed that Kumar had spoken 1,552 times with Rekha, wife of area’s bad character Ram Niwas, in a year and some of the calls were made during odd hours.

During the questioning by senior police officials, including the Joint Commissioner of Police (Central Range) Virender Singh, Kumar could not provide any satisfactory answer about his questionable behaviour.
