After Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, it was BJP president Amit Shah who met RSS head Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday, apparently to inform him about organisational issues, including party’s preparations for forthcoming State Assembly elections. Shah is said to have closeted with Bhagwat for more than one hour and reportedly gave stock of Modi Government’s one year at the Centre and deliberated on current political situation and his party’s preparedness for coming polls in Bihar (2015), West Bengal and Tamil Nadu (2016) and Uttar Pradesh (2017).
The Sangh chief was briefed about the “success” of party in expanding its base and high octane membership drive, making BJP world’s largest party. According to sources, ‘Sarsaghchalak’ suggested ‘certain changes’ in party’s functioning, which included “more inclusive” decision-making. Among other issues, the political build up around the land Acquisition Bill (which is now sent to joint committee of Parliament after the Congress opposed it) and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s attempt to portray it as “anti-farmers” also came up between the two during the meeting. Media was not briefed about the nature of discussion between Shah and Bhagwat.
BJP president also met Union Minister for Transport Nitin Gadkari at his residence in Nagpur. On Thursday, Rajnath had met Bhagwat at the Sangh headquarters and discussed one-year of BJP in saddle at the Centre. The closed door meeting between Rajanth and Bhagwat had lasted for about two hours in which important issues like the land Bill was also discussed.
Making his first trip to the Sangh headquarters after becoming Home Minister, he deliberated upon key issues such as the black-money tracking and the performance of Modi Government, according to sources. The meeting assumed significance in the backdrop of his recent statement that the Government has no plans to come out with a legislation on building Ram temple in Ayodhya since BJP does not have majority of its own in the Rajya Sabha and that the Government would wait for Supreme Court verdict on the issue. When asked by newspersons on the topics that figured during his discussion with the Sangh chief, Rajnath had responded, “Our bonding will continue.” He said since he is a Swayayamsewak, he will keep visiting RSS leaders.
