Eight people were injured after a minor clash broke out between two communities in Seemapuri, East Delhi, on Friday — a day before Muharram, according to police. “The incident took place around 9 pm and as soon as we reached we assessed the situtation. And things are under control,” said a police officer.
It all started when children from different communities started having an altercation over some issue with adults too joining in, said police, adding that soon it turned physical and stones were thrown.
“The fight started with three people on either side and soon they started throwing stones at each other causing minor injuries,” said DCP East, Veenu Bansal.
Medical treatment was provided to the injured and in two hours the situation was under control, he said.
Bansal added, “Some people were detained initially but later on they were released and after that no one has been arrested.”
Also, police said, “Extra security arrangements have been put in place to restore peace in the area and to avoid any further clash.” Police have registered a case of riot at Seemapuri Police Station and further investigation is on.
