A scuffle between local residents from Arambol beach village and Narcotics Control Bureau sleuths, forced a senior official to discharge his official weapon during a search and raid operation. Police said on Saturday, that NCB Superintendent J Ranjan was forced to fire a weapon in the air, after enraged locals tried to attack the official and his team on Saturday afternoon. “A First Information Report is in the process of being filed. The NCB official had to discharge his weapon to disperse the crowd which had surrounded him at Arambol,” Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Chandan Choudhary told reporters here. Arambol is a popular tourism-oriented village located around 40 km from Panaji and is also known as a narco-tourism destination. Police sources said that Ranjan was accompanied by four police constables as escorts during the raid and the scuffle started after the official allegedly assaulted one of the persons during the search and raid operation, which led to a heated exchange between locals and the raiding team. The NCB official was however not available for comment.
