With electioneering reaching its peak, Congress candidate and sitting Member of Parliament (MP) from East Delhi Sandeep Dikshit started door-to-door campaign from Vishwas Nagar Assembly constituency on Saturday. He tried to meet each individual in the locality and appealed them to vote in his favour for continuing the ongoing development works in the constituency. Dikshit, a two-time MP and son of former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit, claimed that Congress party has ensured development of the area during its 10-year rule and people will elect him a third time. As Dikshit hit the campaign trail, he found support from the locals who had turned out to greet him and assure their support.
While interacting with the people of the area, Dikshit sought votes on his performance as a sitting MP as well as his party’s Government at the Centre. He also cautioned people against voting for the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP saying not only development works in the area will take a hit but also termed them ‘outsiders’ who have little knowledge about the constituency. “Other parties have picked up candidates just with intention to win the seat but these candidates are least bothered about the day-to-day problems of the area. They are creating confusion among the voters on various issues and are trying to misguide them,” said Dikshit during his campaign.
launching a broadside against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government in Delhi, Dikshit said, “An illusion was created by making attractive promises and people thought to give other parties a chance thinking their lives would be better. They were attracted towards those promises of other parties. This happens sometimes, but now that so-called wave is over.” Dikshit faces a three-cornered contest in the constituency as BJP has fielded Maheish Girri while AAP’s Rajmohan Gandhi is the other main contender.
Facing tough fight from AAP and BJP nominees, Dikshit is now busy doing door-to-door campaigning and padyatras in all those areas where Congress lost in the Delhi polls. On Saturday, the visit was made in Vishwas Nagar, JJ cluster in Anand Vihar, Vishwas Nagar Extension, Jagriti Enclave, Shrestha Vihar, Surajmal Vihar, Shakti Vihar, Dayanand Vihar, Kondli, Vasundhara Enclave, Mayur Vihar-III and nearby areas, for more than 12 hours where Dikshit not only met voters, but addressed party workers and held meetings too.
