Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh arrived on a two-day visit to his Parliamentary Constituency lucknow on Saturday. On the first day of his visit, Singh launched the ‘Gramin Bank of Aryavart Free Group Personal Accidental Insurance Scheme for Borrowers- 2018’.
launching the personal accident insurance scheme, Singh said that agriculture and farmers were the backbone of Indian economy. He said that rural banks and the network of banks in rural areas were very important for the rural and national economy.
Singh said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had repeatedly emphasised the role of rural banks in Indian economy as they served the last person on the ladder and would play a pivotal role in achieving the goal of doubling farmers’ income by 2022.
“The Prime Minister has resolved to double the income of farmers by 2022, the year of celebration of 75 years of Independence. For achieving this, we need to bring down the cost of agriculture inputs,” he said. The Union Home Minister said, “Effective measures taken by the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) Government has resulted in sharp drop in prices of urea and other fertilisers while earlier, the farmers were compelled to buy urea in black market.”
Singh said that the government was working to ensure uninterrupted power supply to farmers at cheaper rates and increase minimum support price to at least 1.5 times the cost incurred by farmers in growing crops.
Terming the Jan Dhan Yojna (financial inclusion scheme) as a huge success story of the NDA Government, Singh said that the Modi Government had ensured access of the common man to banking service.
He said that 31.5 crore people in India had bank accounts today and the share of India was 55 per cent in total bank accounts opened across the globe in the last one year.
The former national president of the BJP said that the NDA Government had paid special attention on social security and had initiated schemes like Atal Pension Yojana and Crop Insurance Scheme. He said that if India wanted to achieve the status of the largest economy of the world, then the last man on the ladder would have to be reached.
The Home Minister said that India had got global recognition as the fastest growing economy and today it was the sixth largest economy of the world. He said that if India was able to maintain the present growth rate, by 2030 the country would become the third largest economy of the world.
