Rumblings in AIADMK ahead of no-trust vote

Published on:

While the AIADMK is yet to take a stance on the no-confidence motion to be introduced by the YSR Congress in the lok Sabha against the Narendra Modi Government, rumblings could be heard from the party headquarters in Chennai city.

On Friday, KC Palanisamy, a former member of parliament who was also a MlA during the tenure of MGR was expelled from the party by Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam. Palanisamy, who is addressed as KCP by friends and colleagues, wanted the AIADMK to support the no-confidence motion because of the failure of the Centre to constitute the Cauvery Management Board.

A release issued by the AIADMK headquarters late Friday evening and signed by Edappadi Palaniswami and Panneerselvam said Palanisamy had brought disrepute to the party through his anti-party activities. KCP has no love lost for the BJP and is said to be closer to the leaders of the Congress, Samajwadi Party and RJD than that of the Hindutwa brigade.

The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhakam, an outfit launched by TTV Dhinakaran suffered a setback on Saturday as Nanjil Sampath, considered till now as the loud speaker of Dhinakaran quit the party over the non-inclusion of terms like Dravida and Anna in the name of the new party. Sampath is ‘famous’ for his theatrics and had quit the AIADMK immediately after the election of V K Sasikala as party general secretary in December 2016. But when Sasikala summoned him to Veda Nilayam and asked him to continue working for the party, he obliged and soon emerged as the spokesman of  Dhinakaran and Sasikala.

Though Sampath claimed he would not join any political parties, sources close to him said he may soon cast his lots with the DMK and MK Stalin.
