Noted RTI activist Subhash Chandra Agarwal was on Saturday appointed consultant to the Delhi Government by lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung. The formal appointment letter was directed to the activist, who is known to have filed over 3,000 RTI applications on wide-ranging issues concerning the national cause. Agrawal confirmed his appointment saying he would take over as an adviser to the city Government from Monday onwards.

A businessman from Chandni Chowk area, Agrawal, however, said he has not been assigned any specific task as of now. “Right now I don’t have any information what exactly lieutenant-Governor wants me to do but presumably the Government might tell me to handle the RTI section due to of my expertise in the same,” he said.

Agrawal finds mention in the Guinness Book of World Records for most letters to the editor (3,699 till January 31, 2006) by an individual published in newspapers. Interestingly his wife Madhu Agrawal also holds Guinness World Record for maximum letters to newspapers in a particular calendar year (447 in the year 2004).
