The eight-lane Bhalswa Flyover, built at a cost of Rs45 crore, was on Saturday thrown open for the public by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who claimed that the AAP Government has saved Rs20 crore in the project. The flyover, part of the 20 km-long Vikaspuri-Wazirabad signal-free elevated corridor, is aimed at easing traffic on Outer Ring Road. “PWD has saved Rs20 crore by constructing the eight-lane Bhalswa Flyover at a cost of Rs45 crore against its estimated cost of Rs65 crore,” Kejriwal told a gathering.
Hitting out at the BJP-ruled MCDs for “civic woes”, Kejriwal said the AAP will develop Bhalswa landfill site into a playground for children if it is voted to power in municipal corporations next year. The Chief Minister said despite the Congress and the BJP ruling for several years, garbage dump, which has come up in the middle of city, has not been removed from the site.
The inauguration ceremony also witnessed a verbal fight between former Congress MlA Devender Yadav, who along with his supporters, protested when Kejriwal was about to inaugurate the flyover, demanding shifting of Bhalswa landfill site which causing discomfort to people of the area and local AAP MlA Ajesh Yadav. Yadav wanted to give memorandum to this effect but he was not allowed. This led to heated arguments between them. AAP MlA alleged that previous Congress Government was responsible for Bhalswa site and now they are complaining for shifting it.
“There is a landfill site (Bhalswa) which has become like a mountain of garbage in the middle of city,” Kejriwal said.
