Right wing leaders get police protection in Guj

Published on:

The Gujarat Government has decided to provide police protection to as many as three right wing leaders in communally sensitive Bharuch town following the  killings of two leaders associated with BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

The decision has been taken after the police came to know during the investigation of the double murder case that three leaders — Viral Desai, Prakash Modi and Jaykar Maharaj — all associated with right wing organisations RSS, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajarang Dal are on target of the same conspirators who killed Shirish Bengali (RSS leader) and Pragnesh Mistry BJP Yuva Moracha leader in Bharuch in November this year.

Desai is general secretary of VHP’s south Gujarat area. Modi is former present of Bharuch unit of Bajarang Dal as well as brother in law of murdered Bengal. Maharaj is a priest in a temple. Around a year ago Desai had received a threat call from Pakistan by one Iffan Gabu. The call was originated from Johannesburg in South Africa. According to Desai at that time he had not taken the threat seriously.

During the investigation in the double murder case the police came to know that accused of Shirish Bengali murder Yunus Manzar had taken money from Maharaj, but he was refusing to return the money. Yunus was into illegal activities like running gambling den.
