As many as 900 employees working across 18 different job roles in the Rashtrapati Bhavan became the latest to receive training under the Government’s flagship National Skill Development Mission. They were given certificates on completion of their training by President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday.
Since skilled labourers are employed at Rashtrapati Bhavan to maintain the grandeur and magnificence of the building and its surroundings, the need was felt to train them in order to ascertain whether their skills meet the standards of their job profile. They were trained under the Government programme Recognition of Prior learning (RPl) under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) that is currently on between April 11 and May 31.
Henceforth, jobs such as gardeners, drivers, room attendants, housekeeping, electrical works, plumbers, carpenters, painters, security guards, office assistants, data entry operators, cooks and laundry men among others, employed at Rashtrapati Bhawan will require to get certification under this programme.
Speaking at the occasion, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that since a beginning has been made at the President’s House, it will “inspire organizations in government and industry to get skill certification of their workforce done”.
Also present at the function was Chairman of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) S Ramadorai and NSDC CEO Jayant Krishna. More than 2 lakh enrolments have been done across 27 states under RPl across 132 active job roles out of which 86 per cent have already completed their training.
