Uncertainties plaguing alliance formation in Tamil Nadu is giving way to clarity and a clear picture about the line-up for the Lok Sabha election would emerge by next week.
The discussion between AIADMK and Puthiya Tamilakam, a regional outfit, was concluded on Saturday with both the parties signing an agreement by which a Lok Sabha seat was allocated to the latter. The PT would support the AIADMK candidates in all the 21 Assembly constituencies where by-elections are due.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is addressing a massive rally at Chennai on Wednesday. The composition of the AIADMK-led alliance would be in place by that time,” Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan told The Pioneer on Saturday. He said whatever uncertainties were there in the minds of the people of Tamil Nadu got cleared with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kanyakumari on Friday. “People are of the view that the country needs a strong Prime Minister like Narendra Modi and this itself has brightened the poll prospects,” he said.
The PMK and the BJP are the major constituents in the AIADMK led front. The DMDK led by Vijayakanth is bargaining with the AIADMK and is likely to join the front, said a BJP leader who did not want his name to be quoted. But Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam called on Vijayakanth on Saturday and told media persons after his meeting that there would be a good news soon. It is reported that the DMDK was asking the AIADMK for seven seats, the number of seats it had allocated to the PMK.
Talks in the DMK front are progressing smoothly and would conclude by next week, according to a party leader. Mahendran, the CPI leader told The Pioneer that there were no confusion or chaos in the front regarding the number of seats or constituencies. “We have been working with the DMK for the welfare of the people for the last three years and the talks are a formality,” said Mahendran.
M K Stalin, the DMK president is continuing his Jana Sabha meetings in villages and panchayaths indoctrinating the voters about the dangers posed by the BJP and Hindutwa elements. “Sanatana Dharma is more dangerous than the threat from Pakistan and China,” Stalin told the Jana Sabhas repeating the charge he made at Tiruchirapalli recently.
While the DMK has amicably finalised seat sharing with the Congress, Muslim League, Kongunady Desiya Party (a former BJP ally), it is expected to complete the process by next week by signing agreements with the Lefts and the VCK.
