Post-poll violence continued unabated in Bengal with rampaging Trinamool Congress men attacking the opposition workers killing at least three people and damaging properties in various places since Friday night, police sources said.

A CPI(M) worker was lynched by a rampaging Trinamool mob at Manteshwar in Burdwan district as he campaigned for his party during the elections. “Kajal Mullik was pulled out of his house by his attackers who then beat him up with lathis, rods before finally killing him with spears,” local police sources said adding no arrests had been made thus far.

The second incident took place at Bhairab Chandrapur in Ranaghat constituency of Nadia district where two rebel Trinamool workers Shaymal Biswas and Gurupada Biswas were beaten to death by other party men because they had dared to quit the party.“Soon after the results were declared a huge Trinamool procession that was passing through the area suddenly attacked our house and pulled them out before beating them to death,” their relatives said adding their bodies lay for hours before they came and recovered them.

Similar violence took places in North Bengal constituencies of Alipurudar, Coochbehar, and Jalpaiguri where the houses of left workers were vandalised and looted sources said. A party office was looted and a couple of vehicles were set on fire on Saturday noon at Durgapur.Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday met the winning party MPs before nominating former Railway Minister Mukul Roy as the Trinamool Parliamentary party leader and Kalyan Banerjee as the Chief Whip.

Elsewhere the Election Commission sources on Saturday said only 1.1 per cent voters of the State had opted for the NOTA button in the elections for the 42 lok Sabha seats. Out of a total 6.27 crore voters about only 5.67 lakh pressed the NOTA button, sources said, adding however the voters of the villagers might not have been aware of the new system.
