Police, security forces launch fight-to-finish operation against NDFB

The Police and security forces deployed in Assam, particularly in the lower Assam districts have launched a fight-to-finish battle against the anti-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants and the Jihadi elements operating in the districts.

GoC 4 Corps, lt. Gen. Sarath Chand and Assam Director General of Police Khagen Sarma told this to media today after reviewing the law and order scenario in the lower Assam districts, particularly in the Bodoland Territorial Areas Districts (BTAD) of Assam today.

The Assam DGP claimed the operation as the ‘biggest’ one so far and said that the basic intention is to completely eradicate the NDFB militants operating in the BTAD, particularly along the Indo-Bhutan border of Assam.

“We have launched the biggest operation against the NDFB faction under unified command structure. The NDFB top commanders like G. Bidai has been hiding. It becomes very difficult to find out some one if he goes on hiding on a forested area like BTAD. However, if Bidai comes out and try to attack the security forces, he would be caught,” said Sarma, adding that some of the cadres of the outfit are still in Myanmar and that the forces are alert so that they cannot cross over to this side of the border.

The DGP also admitted that the operations against the NDFB faction have been able to achieve success but the out is yet to be neutralised completely.

lt. Gen. Sarath Chand said that more additional forces have been inducted into the operation which was started on Friday. “The operations have been intensified since January this year especially along Indo-Bhutan border, forest areas of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Sonitpur with the deployment of about 4,000 troops,” he said.
