Police man killed, another hurt in Kalimpong blast

A police man was killed and another severely injured late on Saturday evening when unknown miscreants launched a grenade attack on Kalimpong Police Station, sources said adding this could be the initial signs of the Gorkhaland movement taking a turn towards militancy.

The Saturday’s incident took place 24 hours after a similar blast at Chowk Bazaar in Darjeeling. However, there was no casualty in the earlier blast. The Darjeeling blast was so strong that it could be heard from the entire hill town, sources said.

Police sources said a hand grenade was hurled inside the police station where a civic volunteer and a home guard were on duty. The grenade accidentally hit an electric poll and deflected towards a flag stand where the ill-fated policemen were standing.
