Come July 24 and Delhi University’s North Campus will be abuzz with freshers joining their respective colleges. The Delhi Police in concert with the Delhi University (DU) administration has made a detailed security audit of the North and South Campus to ensure that girl students are not harassed by outsiders and lumpen elements are kept at bay.

The Delhi Police personnel and private security will be deployed at vantage points to check unauthorised entry of vehicles. A dedicated helpline is being created and the number will be activated on the day DU's new session commences. The helpline has been commissioned and it will be a 24X7 helpline for girl students.

A senior police officer said that adequate number of armed men and officers, including a large number of police personnel in civvies will be posted to keep an eye on the trouble mongers and eve-teasers. Entry to North Campus will be regulated and vehicular movement will be curtailed to provide safety to young girl students, he added.

“There will be additional deployment at girls' colleges and police personnel will be there on the ridge area as well, to keep an eye on rowdy elements, the official said. Specially trained women constables will be put at vital points for escorting the girl students,” he further said.

Police Control Room (PCR) vans will be stationed at the entry and exit points of all roads leading to the North Campus. The number of PCR vans is being increased this year and there will be quick reaction teams (QRTs) to deal with any emergency situation.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North, Sidhu Pillai said that they have conducted a detailed survey of the North campus and all the loose points have been plugged. Special measures have been initiated to curb the menace of eve-teasers and there will be mobile patrols in the form of Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) to redress the problems faced by girl students.

“Adequate measures have been initiated to curb ragging in the campus. There will be police personnel on motorcycles too. The entire campus has been put under CCTV surveillance and a dedicated control will function round-the-clock,” the DCP added.
