PM to perform bhoomipujan of Mumbai memorial today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation for the fourth terminal of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), visit Chaitya Bhoomi at Shivaji Park, perform bhoomipujan for the Ambedkar Memorial at the defunct Indu Mill and lay the foundation for the Metro Corridor, during his visit to Mumbai on Sunday.

Modi will wind up his six-hour-long hectic visit to the metropolis, by addressing a public rally at the MMRDA grounds at the Bandra-Kurla complex.

The Prime Minister will begin his day by inaugurating the fourth terminal of JNPT at Nhava Sheva, at 3 pm.

Modi will later head to the Chaityabhoomi at Dadar Chowpatty, where late Dr Ambedkar was cremated a day after he passed away on December 6, 1956. He will later perform ground-breaking ceremony for late B R Ambedkar at the defunct Indu Mill compound, which is located adjacent to the Chaityabhoomi.

The Prime Minister will be accompanied by four Union Ministers — Road Transport and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari, Textile Minister Santosh Gangwar,  Special Justice Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot, and Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will also be present.

Upset apparently with the State Government’s failure to invite him for the function, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray is unlikely to make it to the Ambedkar memorial foundation laying ceremony.

The Prime Minister will later lay foundation for the Metro Corridor project and address a public rally at the MMRDA ground  at Bandra Kurla Complex.
