With sharp deterioration in Delhi’s air quality, people complained about their eyes stinging and watering on Friday. They also reported the uncomfortable feeling of “being choked”. This wasn’t surprising because air pollution levels in the city had reached alarming high.
Doctors said that the polluted air has caused allergic bronchitis, cough and cold, breathlessness, fevers, and eye irritation/infection cases to rise.
“It was uncomfortable going to office in the dense smog especially in the morning. I had already visited doctor after my eyes starts burning. As advised by doctor, I want to get back home as soon as possible as after being exposed in open for long could have several health implications due to smog,” said Kartik Chandra, who lives in Uttam Nagar.
Vikas Togadia, who was driving from Nehru Vihar to Narela in the morning, said that nothing was visible due to smog and very soon I started getting breathless and my cough worsened.
“Doctor advised me to stay indoor and to use exhaust fan instead. My daughter, Guria also has fever and headache for two days and advised by the doctor not to send her school untill the situation improve,” he added.
“We are really concerned on the level of pollution in Delhi and stop sending our children even to school but we also know that this is not a permanent solution and the government must take measures to mitigate the pollution as soon as possible. Staying indoor is also not a feasible option for long as for everything from eatable to glossaries we have to step out from our homes,” said Parvej Malik, resident of Dwarka.
