A 40-year-old gangster who had allegedly committed three murders in the last six months after coming out of jail has been arrested. He was out of jail after being acquitted in an old murder case. According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Kumar Yadav, the accused Ajay Kumar had been released from jail in 2012 on being acquitted in the case by the Delhi High Court. “Since then, Kumar had been into extortion and had been involved in many cases of gangwar for gaining supremacy in South Delhi,” said Yadav.
He was arrested from Nehru Place on Saturday by Crime Branch team after they were tipped-off about his whereabouts. On April 5, Kumar and six of his associates had abducted and murdered two members of a rival gang in South-East Delhi’s Sangam Vihar area. Earlier on November 22 last year, a shootout between two gangs, including one led by Kumar, in Neb Sarai led to the death of a youth and injuries to five others. Police said the two gangs were vying for control over gambling and drug trafficking in the area. Police said Kumar began his foray into the crime world by indulging in break-ins. He was held for two murders and was lodged in jail for a few years before being acquitted by the Delhi High Court.
