Pak conducting sham ops to please Int’l community

Amid intense international pressure to act against terror groups operating from its soil post-Pulwama, Pakistan is back at sham operations against terrorists to please the global community.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the unified PR arm of the Pakistani forces, has issued a Press release claiming the security forces there conducted an intelligence-based operation in Mahnshera and arrested "two important terrorists and three of their accomplices."

The ISPR has released photographs of five alleged terrorists but has neither identified them nor their organisation, a pointer to the old tactic of the Pakistan Army which picks up people and brands them terrorists. In many cases, Pakistan army is known to produce missing people in their extra-legal custody or those undergoing enforced disappearances.

"Operation Radd ul Fassad: Security Forces along with CTD conducted an intelligence based operation in Mahnshera. 2 Important Terrorists including their 3 accomplices arrested. The apprehended terrorists were involved in sabotage activities in Hazara including targeting police and military convoys, target killing of LEAs and attack on Imambargha," reads the ISPR release issued on March 12.

The photographs of the five alleged terrorists have been appended with the release. However, the ISPR has not even mentioned the offences allegedly committed or any terror case in which they could be wanted.

According to the European Union Parliament records, Pakistan ranks sixth in the world in the Modern Slavery Index, with an estimated 2.13 million people or 1.13 per cent of its population is living in modern slavery. "Pakistan was one of the leading executioners in the world in 2017, the EU parliament has said in a recent report.

Pakistan army is known to indulge in human rights violations, custodial killings, enforced disappearances, torture and is the biggest executioner of so called terrorist including even minors and religious minorities in the world besides atrocities against religious and ethnic minorities.

Since Pakistan army runs as many as 150 companies in businesses involving milk production, sugar, construction, property and a host of other areas, the slavery is mostly perpetrated by the uniformed men who are also engaged in human rights excesses.

Pakistan is under pressure to act against terrorist groups operating from its soil after one of its terror outfit—Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing on a CRPF convoy on February 14 in which 40 paramilitary men were killed in Pulwama in Jammu & Kashmir.
