In an embarrassing incident for the State Government, the Rajkot district convener of Patidar Anamat Anadolan Samiti (PAAS) committee allegedly committed suicide on Saturday evening.

Thirty-year old Umesh Balana left behind a hand-written note saying he was ending his life for the cause of reservation in jobs and education for the youth of Patidar community on par with that given to the OBC. “I am sorry that I will not be there with you all but hope my sacrifice will not be wasted,” said Bhalana in suicide note.

The deceased was a resident of Punit Nagar locality of Rajkot. Police said investigation in the matter was still going on. The investigative officer, however, did not give more detail. This is the first case of its kind whereby a person has committed suicide in support of the ongoing pro reservation stir.
