Expressing deep anguish over crashed sewerage system in Delhi, leader of the Opposition in Delhi Vidhan Sabha Vijendra Gupta on Saturday said that over 40 per cent area of the national Capital lacks the facility of a proper sewerage system.
Gupta said that the Committee constituted by the Chief Secretary of the Delhi Government has blamed sewerage system for water logging in Capital in its 18 page report. He further said that the report revealed a large number of sewers are without cover, causing inconvenience and threat of epidemics as well.
Gupta said that the Government should take immediate action to implement recommendations made by the committee constituted by the Chief Secretary to free Delhi from the problem of waterlogging in near future. “It will also help the city to reduce environmental pollution and save Yamuna River from getting dirtier.”
“At many places, rain water drains have been linked to sewers therefore the flow of rainwater instead of Yamuna River actually turn to the sewer treatment plants, further increasing load on these plants. Similarly, at some other places, sewage water is being flown to the Yamuna which is responsible for increasing level of pollution in the river,” he added.
Blaming the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the mess, he said both the parties are ruling in Delhi for the last 19 years but still have failed to provide even basic amenities to the people of Delhi.
Gupta also said that the Delhi PWD has failed to de-silt drainage system. “Crores of public money spent by the department for construction and maintenance of nallahs, goes waste since these nallahs are not made as per approved standards. These nallahs don't have proper slope for smooth flow of water, resulting in garbage accumulation that further paved the way for mosquitoes breeding,” he added.
