Omar's tweet on fidayeen route opens Pandora's box

J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah seems to have opened Pandora’s box by sharing his assessment on the micro blogging site about the possible infiltration route of fidayeen and laying blame on the BSF for not being able to plug the gaps in the fence.

Minutes after the operation in Janglote area of Kathua district was formally called off by the security forces on Friday evening, the Chief Minister had tweeted, “The BSF needs to take a look at vulnerable areas & plug these gaps because these militants haven’t given up & we can’t let them succeed.” He also put the blame on the BSF for allowing the fidayeen to exploit the gaps.

“The ease with which militants exploited gaps in the fence to cross the international border is a matter of grave concern,” Omar had tweeted.

On Saturday, a retired police officer of the rank of Inspector General of Police, who recently joined the BJP in the presence of PM nominee Narendra Modi, Farooq Khan said, “In an urgency to tweet on an issue makes our CM always jump the gun and it has landed him in trouble on number of occasions. On this issue also his tweet had been bordering on being criminal.”

Former IG, who is considered one of the most decorated officer with an impeccable track record of handling hostage crisis and fidayeen attacks at the peak of militancy said by blaming BSF, the Chief Minister has shown his ignorance about the issue and has tried to score some points. He said, “What was the reason for him to suddenly come out with this gem of information was not known to him.”

“We don’t know. No body knows. Where from these terrorists have come. Whether they have come from Nepal with their families like so many others have reached J&K or they had infiltrated from across the border,” he said.

Sounding a note of caution Farooq Khan, addressing a maiden Press conference here in the BJP office said, “The incident of Dayalachak should not be read in isolation.” The incident of Dayalachak and the arrest of two persons in Gorakhpur should be studied carefully.

He said, “It was not a coincidence that a day earlier the BJP’s PM nominee was addressing a public rally there and these terrorists were either around or their presence in the area was to disturb that rally and attack on Modi.”

He also said, “The Gorakhpur Police has come out with the reports that those two persons who were caught were planning an attack on Modiji. So, these incidents and the way the Chief Minister has hurried to tell the people that they had come from across the border. What is thisIJ Are we seeing something which is probably too mysterious somewhereIJ”

Responding to a question that the terrorists may have been present there at the time of the rally but failed to attack, the former police officer said, “We cannot rule out the possibility that the terrorists were there to attack the public rally. Of course that is quite a probability. A very strong probability I would say.” They were there  but they could not attack the rally because the arrangements of the rally were also supervised by Modi’s own team of police officers.
