loosing his grip over the party machinery in the absence of Farooq Abdullah, currently undergoing treatment for his kidney ailment in london, Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has now started rebuking the party leaders for deserting the sinking ship in the run-up to the Assembly polls.

On Saturday, Omar labelled Ajatshatru Singh, younger son of Karan Singh, as an ‘opportunist’ and regretted nominating him to the Upper House for a period of six years.Unhappy with another political development related to resignation of party MlC, Shiekh Ghulam Rasool, Omar gave vent to his ire claiming the dead wood accumulated by his father is clearing itself out.

Apparently, reacting to the media reports claiming Ajatshatru Singh was ready to dump National Conference ahead of joining the BJP, Omar tweeted,” Never stops amazing me that opportunists like Sh Ghulam Rasool and Ajat only find faults with National Conference and its leadership when their terms are finishing”.

Ajatshatru Singh is expected to join the BJP in New Delhi on Sunday. He is keen on contesting the Assembly polls from Nagrotra Assembly segment in Jammu. Ajatshatru Singh had earlier won this seat in 1996 and became a Minister in the Farooq Abdullah led Government. He, however, failed to retain his seat in 2002 and 2008. If given the mandate Singh would face DS Rana, close aide of Omar Abdullah and provincial president of National Conference from Nagrota Assembly segment.

Earlier, Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, former chief secretary and sitting MlC in the state assembly resigned from the party on November 5 ahead of joining PDP. Rasool was credited for ensuring victory of Omar from Ganderbal in 2008 Assembly polls.Rasool resigned from the primary membership of the party and central working committee citing lack of consultation process in the party over state affairs and organisational matters of Ganderbal.
