Criticising Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed for forging alliance with the BJP, former Chief Minister and Working president of Opposition National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah blamed Mufti for “rising intolerance” in Jammu and Kashmir. He said the alliance is proving dangerous for the State.
Talking to reporters after paying homage at the mausoleum of late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah on his 110th birth anniversary, Omar’s grandfather and founder of NC, he said, Mufti Sayeed left no stone unturned to save his chair during the past nine months. “I believe that Mufti is responsible for all the intolerance incidents taking place in the state. Mufti has left no stone unturned to save his chair”, Abdullah said.
He said his party’s apprehensions that entry of BJP and RSS would be dangerous have been proven during the past nine months. “Unfortunately our apprehensions have been proved correct in the nine months of newly formed dispensation in the State”, he said.
“We had offered support to PDP several times after election results came out to keep such forces out from the State, but despite that Mufti allied with BJP to form the new dispensation in Jammu and Kashmir,” Omar said adding that alliance is proving dangerous with each passing day as Muslims transporters are being targeted while one truck driver among them died. He said in Kashmir Valley arrests are taking place but in Jammu RSS holds armed rallies and everybody watches them as mute spectator.
Abdullah hailed his grandfather’s contributions to the state as a crusader against feudal rule and implementing land Reforms in the embattled State. “No one can have differences with the economic contribution of Sheikh Sahab even though they may differ with his politics. Jammu and Kashmir today has the least poverty and it is only because of these two steps taken by him”, the former CM said.
