Batman jailed for theft and drug abuse in Singapore

A Singaporean man with an unusual superhero-like name turned out to be a villain who consumed drugs and stole from his brother. Batman bin Suparman, which means Batman son of Suparman in the Malay language, was jailed last week for two years and nine months for various offences including stealing his brother’s automated teller machine card to make withdrawals, media reported.

The 23-year-old unemployed man had also broken into the office of a firm in western Singapore to steal money and taken heroin.

Batman, who has his own fan club on Facebook, became a social media sensation after an image of his identity card with his unusual name was circulated online. (Reuters)

911IJ Woman In My Bed Is Snoring, Please Remove Her!

Fellas, here’s a lesson in how not to end a one-night stand. Wisconsin man Benjamin Duddles, 41, called police to remove a woman who was asleep in his bed and snoring so loudly he couldn’t get to sleep. Duddles spent the evening with the woman drinking and having “relations” before turning in for the night, according to a Waukesha Police Department report.

But the cuddle puddle with Duddles soon turned to trouble. Duddles dialed police at 4 am to ask that police come and take the woman from his home. He said she was “snoring like a train,” according to the report. Police said the man sounded “extremely intoxicated” on the phone. Still, they went to Duddles’ residence to assess the situation. Police explained to Duddles that no crime had been committed and it was not a police matter because he let her into his home. (Huffington Post)

Cheaters Would Stay Faithful If It Weren’t For Technology

Your smart phone may be driving more of a wedge between you and your partner than you realise. A new survey by Victoria Milan, a dating site for married people looking to cheat, found that out of 6,000 of its users, 45 per cent said they cheated because their partner spent too much time on their phones or tablets.

What’s more, a whopping two-thirds said they wouldn’t have hooked up with someone else if it weren’t for the help of the Internet and other new technologies.

“like anything else that enhances our lives, technology is a double-edged sword,” Victoria Milan’s CEO Sigurd Vedal said. “It’s a predictable, albeit unfortunate, commentary that modern use of technology has led to a kind of social isolation — being alone in a room of many others — that leads to seeking out connections with others when we are left feeling unfulfilled in our day to day relationships. One way or the other we need to find that connection.”

The demographic most likely to stray because their partner was snubbing them with their phone useIJ Women ages 30-50, according to the site. This isn’t the first time research has shown the detrimental effect cell phones and texting can have on a relationship. In October, researchers at Brigham Young University found heavy texting to be associated with relationship dissatisfaction among both women and men. (Huffington Post)

Biden congratulates wrong man in Boston mayor’s race

As he watched the returns in Boston’s most competitive mayoral race in two decades, Marty Walsh’s cell phone rang. “A 202 number popped up, and I picked it up. It was Vice-President (Joe) Biden. He went right into it, ‘Congratulations, Marty, you son of a gun. You did it!’” Walsh recalled. “I said, ‘Mr Vice-President, you have the wrong Marty Walsh.’”

Biden had intended to call labour activist and State Senator Marty Walsh, who had just been elected mayor of Boston. Instead he was on the line with the Marty Walsh, president of Gateway Public Solutions, a public affairs consulting firm in Boston. “He laughed, and he was great about it,” said non-Mayor-elect Walsh, who worked in the administration of Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and before that for Senator Edward M Kennedy. He has been getting calls for the other Marty Walsh for more than a decade, he said, and considers him a friend. He was so used to the drill that he gave Biden the correct phone number, and the vice president signed off by saying, “Congratulations on not being the mayor,” according to Walsh. (Reuters)

Shoppers looking for a bargain got some big ones, if only temporarily, at Walmart.com. A technical glitch on the Wal-Mart Stores Inc US website offered some items at a fraction of their actual retail price.

Treadmills, which normally cost hundreds of dollars, were priced at $33.16. lCD computer monitors were offered for $9.

Ravi Jariwala, a spokesman for Walmart.com, said in the late afternoon that the problem had been fixed and that the mistakenly priced orders would not be honoured. “Customers will soon be refunded in full,” he added. (Reuters)
