Odd-even sparks Kejriwal, BJP's Goel war of words

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the BJP clashed over the second phase of odd-even car rationing scheme. The CM said on Saturday the BJP wanted the odd-even plan to fail.

The war of words started after reports surfaced that auto, taxi unions have given call for strike in Delhi on Monday.

“BJP appeals ppl to break odd-even. BJP auto union calls strike.BJP wants odd-even to fail. But Del will fail BJP. In Jan too, BJP tried to fail odd-even by orchestrating officers’ strike. Ppl failed BJP n made odd-even success,” Kejriwal said in a series of tweets.

However, he asserted that the people of Delhi will once again place their trust in the AAP in the next Assembly polls causing the BJP to fail yet again.

Kejriwal’s blistering attack came in response to BJP leader Vijay Goel stating that he will violate the odd-even scheme and he was ready to pay the fine of Rs 2,000, imposed on violators, for the “symbolic protest”.

“Taxpayers’ money is being spent everyday on publicising Kejriwal’s photos. If he is so convinced about the scheme, then why spend crores of rupees on publicity and not implement it permanentlyIJ” said Goel. He said his Facebook statement clearly states that his protest is against the political posturing by the AAP which is using the odd-even scheme’s publicly funded advertising budget to plaster Kejriwal’s photo everywhere.

“I am saddened by the fact that instead of answering my questions, CM’s reply via a tweet misrepresented my statement and falsely claimed that my party and me are against the scheme,” Goel said.

Criticising the BJP, Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai said if Goel  breaks the odd-even car rationing rule he will be treated like any other offender and penalised for the violation. Rai further stated that the Government would not permit anyone to fail the scheme. Rai alleged that his statement to break odd-even rules shows his “frustration” at being sidelined by the BJP.
