Nursery admission: BJP asks l-G to form monitoring committee
Published on:

Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan on Saturday demanded Delhi lt Governor (l-G) Najeeb Jung form a high-level monitoring committee under his supervision to monitor the admission process on a day-to-day basis in Delhi schools. He also demanded the proposed committee file a report to the l-G and also make it public via media.

The BJP State president, in his letter to Najeeb Jung, has written that through an amendment to the Constitution in August 2009, education of children has been recognised as a Fundamental Right from April 2010. Under this law, the children between six and 14 years of age must be provided free primary education by the State. In private managed schools, there should be 25 per cent reservation for children from poor families.

“It is regrettable and a matter of grave concern that the Right to Education Act has not been implemented in the Capital of India. lakhs of children are being deprived of nursery and primary education due to arbitrariness of the primary schools. This case is so serious that the Supreme Court had to intervene. Admission process has stopped. Parents are apprehensive that their children may be deprived of the Right to Education. Those people who have come from outside States due to transfer or migration are the worst-affected,” wrote Vardhan.

Since Jung himself is a reputed educationist, Vardhan requested him to personally look into this issue to ensure admission to all children. He also wanted Jung to empower the monitoring committee to the problem of any parent who came with grievances within a fixed time frame.
